| The Klamath dams are valuable for their water storage as well as the clean electricity they produce. Around 75,000 homes and / or businesses receive this clean energy. In recent years water in the lakes have been a valuable resource to help put our wilf fires. The dams also protect against flooding in the lower Klamath. Restoring the river by removing the dams will not bring Salmon back to the upper Klamath and tributaries. The genetic lines of Salmon that returned to the upper Klamath to spawn are long since gone. The Salmon that currently return to the Irongate Hatchery are mostly linked to Bogus Creek. Salmon don’t change the tributary they span in. Unlike Steelhead, that can spawn in a variety of rivers and streams, Salmon always return to the exact stream of their particular genetic line. There is, of course, evolution. To my knowledge nothing is being done to remove the silt in Copco Lake that most likely contains 100 years of pesticides, fertilizers and chemicals. One I’m aware |
